VIDEO: Fast moving garage fire quelled by Dennis firefighters

From Dennis Fire: The Dennis fire and police departments responded to a reported structure fire at 1:14 PM at 161 Beach Street. When the firefighters arrived they encountered heavy fire and smoke coming from the garage of a 2½ story colonial style home. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire using multiple hoses stopping it from getting into the rest of the house. There were two vehicles in the garage at the time of the fire.

Home owners Nancy Heller and Holly Gewandter, as well as the fire department were notified of the fire by an alarm system in the building. The owners stated they had put ashes from their fireplace in a paper bag, then put the bag in the garage. They were returning to New York after a weekend on the Cape when the fire broke out.

Dennis fire department has an agreement with the Yarmouth fire department that also sent a fire engine to assist. No injuries were reported.

According to the accessor’s records the home has an assessed value of $777,000.
