Updated: Fire breaks out at Yarmouth camp office building

YARMOUTH PORT – Fire broke out at the office building of Camp Wingate*Kirkland on Linnell Lane shortly before 9:30 PM Monday evening. The fire appeared to be in the basement and was quickly knocked down. Heavy smoke had to be ventilated from the structure. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Update: Yarmouth Fire reports that at 9:26 PM, they received a 911 call for a structure fire In the office building at Camp Wingate*Kirkland at 20 Linnell Road in Yarmouth Port.

Employees walking by the office heard the smoke detectors and noticed smoke coming from the office.

Three Yarmouth engines and a mutual aid engine from Dennis responded as well as a Yarmouth ambulance. Crews quickly entered the building to find a storage room in the basement on fire.

The fire was quickly extinguished and crews worked to salvage what items they could.

It was determined that the fire started by a malfunctioning dehumidifier. The building sustained minor fire damage but extensive smoke damage. There were no injuries to firefighters.
