Fire damages historic home in Dennis


DENNIS
– At 01:33 the Dennis Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 468 Main Street, South Dennis. The fire which started on the outside of the building was knocked down by two Dennis police officers using extinguishers. The remainder of the fire was extinguished by Dennis firefighters using a 1 3/4 inch hose line while checking for extension into the old building.

The house built in 1856 and owned by Ellen Joy Kapinos, was in the process of having a new floor finish and other internal work done to the house.

A pile of empty paint cans, rags and other discarded building materials were located where the fire originated.

There were no reported injuries to firefighters or police and no one was home at the time of the fire.
