Updated: Fire damages house in Onset

ONSET – Fire heavily damaged a house in Onset late Sunday. Firefighters found smoke and fire showing from 23 12th Street when they arrived sometime after 5 PM. No injuries were reported. An engine from Bourne Fire covered the Onset fire station. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Onset Fire reports that on Sunday at approximately 5:17 PM, theyt received a 911 call reporting a structure fire in the area of Twelfth St. A 1st alarm was transmitted upon receipt of the report. While units were enroute, Wareham Police Officers arrived to the scene and confirmed smoke and fire showing from a residential structure. Deputy Chief Andersen arrived to the scene and reported fire throughout a single story 20’ x 30’ non-occupied residence at #23 Wareham Avenue and a “working fire” was declared. As apparatus arrived to the scene, the fire was knocked down after a short time with multiple hose streams being used. In total 25 fire personnel operated at the scene for several hours to complete extinguishment and investigate the cause of the fire, which is still under investigation at this time by Onset Fire Department, Wareham Police, and the State Fire Marshal’s Office. No civilian or fire department injuries were reported.

Assistance was provided at the scene by Wareham Fire Department, Wareham Police and Wareham EMS. Bourne Fire Department provided coverage at the Onset Fire Station.
