Updated: Fire prompts evacuation of large condo complex in Falmouth

FALMOUTH – Firefighters were called to a large three-story condominium complex in Falmouth just before 7 PM. Crews arriving at 28 Cape Codder Road found smoke in an underground garage. Initial reports said a fire was discovered on the outside of the building that was quickly knocked down. The smoke had to be ventilated and the area above the fire was checked to make sure the fire hadn’t spread. No injuries were reported.

Falmouth Fire-Rescue reports that just before 7 o’clock Friday morning E21, E22, E24 and L26 were dispatched to Cape Codder Road for a reported structure fire. First arriving Engine Company found a heavy smoke condition in the basement parking garage of a 20-unit condominium building. Further investigation found a fire located to the rear exterior of the building. Fire had extended from the ground up the exterior wall to just under a second floor deck. The fire was quickly extinguished with no extension into the structure. The fire remains under investigation by Falmouth Fire Prevention Division.

Update: Investigators believe a carelessly disposed cigarette sparked the fire.
