HYANNIS – From Mass State Police: On Sunday shortly after 11 p.m., Trooper Edward Alldredge, who is assigned to State Police-Yarmouth, was on patrol when observed a Chevy in front of him drifting over the center yellow line on Yarmouth Road in Barnstable. Trooper Alldredge stopped the car after the Route 28 intersection, approached, and began speaking with the driver, Clinton Davidson, a 56-year-old Nantucket man.
The passenger, Ryan Banton, a 30-year-old Hyannis man, was not wearing a seat belt. After Trooper Alldredge returned to his cruiser to write his citations he observed the passenger Banton lean quickly to the center of the vehicle out of sight and then popping up and looking toward Trooper Alldredge . Trooper Alldredge approached the passenger Banton and after a quick conversation and fearing that Banton was attempting to retrieve or conceal a weapon he was removed from the vehicle. At this time Barnstable Police Officer Spencer Jackson arrived and shortly after Officer Nolan O’Melia as backup. The driver Davidson was also removed.
A search of the area Banton had access revealed a gold colored .380 Llama semi auto pistol. Both Banton and Davidson were arrested. Both were booked at the Yarmouth Barracks. Bail was set at $500 each.
Banton was charged with
1) Carrying a loaded Firearm
2) Firearm with defaced serial number
3) Possession of Firearm without FID card
4) Possession of ammunition without FID card
5) Firearm violation with 3 prior violent/drug crimes
6) Possession carrying a firearm
7) Failure to wear seat belt
Davidson was charged with
1) Carrying a loaded Firearm
2) Firearm with defaced serial number
3) Possession of Firearm without FID card
4) Possession of ammunition without FID card
5) Possession carrying a firearm
6) Marked lanes
