MASHPEE – Mashpee firefighters were alerted to report of a brush fire on Quashnet Road near Saddleback Road around 3:45 p.m. Sunday. Upon arrival firefighters found a locked gate across the road at the Conservation area entrance on Quashnet Road. They struggled with a frozen lock and finally had to find a way for the brush breaker to get through the woods around the gate.

An area of over a half acre was burned before the fire was brought under control.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Mashpee Fire Department.
