New details: Firefighters save ’68 Mustang after catching fire in Dennis garage


DENNIS – Firefighters rushed to Cove Road in Dennis about 3:30 PM Wednesday for a report of a car on fire in an attached garage. On arrival it was determined the fire was confined to the engine compartment of a vintage 1968 Ford Mustang with no damage to the garage nd no injuries reported. According to reports, the owner had work done on the car earlier and when he started the vehicle the engine caught fire.

In a statement, Dennis Fire reports that they responded to a reported structure fire at 3:35 pm Wednesday afternoon. When firefighters arrived at 98 Cove Road, they found a 1968 Ford Mustang with the engine compartment involved in flames. The vehicle was in the garage at the time. Firefighters rapidly stretch a hose and extinguished the fire before it could spread to the building. Once the fire was put out the vehicle was pushed out of the garage for further wet down.

The Yarmouth fire department assisted Dennis with an Engine and the Dennis Police assisted with traffic during the incident.

Cause of the fire is under investigation but does not appear to be suspicious. Owner stated he just had it worked on.

There were no reported injuries.
