Fireworks barge explosion; Swimmer dies in Plymouth

PLYMOUTH – A barge being used to set off the Plymouth fireworks show exploded Monday evening. Flames may have spread to a second barge. No injuries were reported. The State Fire Marshal’s office was called to investigate. Initial reports suggest a malfunction during the show caused the blast. Bourne Firefighters responded to cover the one of the Plymouth fire stations. Divers located the victim within an hour and brought him to shore. Rescuers were reportedly performing CPR as the victim was rushed to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital. The Plymouth County D.A. says the man was pronounced dead at the hospital.
