TEATICKET – At 10:46 AM Tuesday morning, a garbage truck owned by Premier Truck Sales and Rentals and operated by Cavossa Disposal Corporation had the contents of the truck catch fire. The operator of the truck was at 212 Teaticket Highway when he noticed smoke coming from the rear of the vehicle. The driver safely moved the vehicle across the street to an empty parking lot and dropped the bring contents on the paved parking area. The driver estimated that there were about three tons of refuse in the vehicle. Engine 21 on arrival secured a water supply from a nearby hydrant. This resulted in the closing of Teaticket Highway while a water supply was needed for suppression operations. The fire was extinguished, and the pile was overhauled with assistance from Cavossa Disposal Corporation equipment. There were no reported injuries and minor damage to the 2022 L4990 Mack Truck. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
