Guatemalan man previously deported located on Nantucket

NANTUCKET – A Guatemalan national was indicted last Thursday in federal court in Boston on a federal immigration charge after he had been taken into custody on Nantucket last month.

Jary Vincente Valenzuela, 27, was indicted on one count of unlawful re-entry of a deported alien.

According to court documents, on July 26, 2017, law enforcement officers on the island encountered Valenzuela and determined him to be illegally present in the United States. Valenzuela was previously deported on Aug. 8, 2013.

Valenzuela faces a sentence of no greater than 20 years in prison, up to three years of supervised release, a fine of $250,000, and will be subject to deportation proceedings upon completion of his sentence.

Sentences are imposed by a federal district court judge based on the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

Acting United States Attorney William D. Weinreb and Matthew Etre, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations in Boston made the announcement. Assistant U.S. Attorney David G. Tobin of Weinreb’s Major Crimes Unit is prosecuting the case.
