HARWICH – Friday morning around 8 a.m. Harwich Police and Fire personnel responded to an emergency call for a young deer trapped inside a foundation hole on Oliver Snow Road. The deer was frantically running back and forth attempting to get out.

Upon arrival, Fire Chief Norman Clarke, Jr., called for the Barnstable County Technical Rescue Team to assist in bringing the animal to the surface.

After a two-hour effort, Animal Control Officer Jack Burns and members of the Barnstable Technical Rescue Team trapped the deer, loaded it on a Stokes basket and hauled it out of the foundation hole.

Unfortunately, the animal passed away soon after, most likely from exhaustion and shock.
