HARWICH – The 7th annual Harwich Fire Association Bobby J Memorial Golf Tournament was held Friday, May 20, at the Cranberry Valley Golf Course in Harwich. This year saw the best weather and the largest field of golfers in the history of the tournament. 103 golfers enjoyed summer weather and a golf course that was in stunning condition as it prepared for the Massachusetts Senior Four-Ball Championship Tournament.

The Bobby J tournament is held in memory of Robert W Johnson, a Harwich Firefighter who died in the line of duty, losing his battle to brain cancer on December 26, 2009, at the age of 57. Bobby joined the Harwich Fire Department on July 2, 1978. At the time of his death he had served the people of the town of Harwich for 31 years.

The Bobby J Memorial Golf Event generates funding to support the Harwich Fire Association Scholarship in his name, which is available annually to high school seniors residing in the town of Harwich. The desire is to award the scholarship to a student who personifies selflessness and giving to others, traits that Bobby J was well known for.

The Harwich Fire Association is a non-profit benevolent organization consisting of active and retired firefighters whose mission is to complement the work of the Harwich Fire Department, support its firefighters, and promote goodwill throughout the community.
