HARWICH – Just before 10:00 AM, Harwich Fire-Rescue was alerted to a chimney fire at a residence located at the intersection of Route 39 and Church Street. Flames shooting from the top of the chimney were visible upon arrival of the first officer on scene who requested the ladder truck to gain access to the roof. Firefighters worked for about 20 minutes to extinguish the flames in the chimney and to check for fire extension within the walls of the structure, which were found to be clear. There were no injuries reported to the homeowner or to Firefighters and the scene was cleared in under 1 hour. Traffic was reduced to one alternating lane on Route 39 by Harwich Police for the duration of the incident.
