Hyannis Fire Department to swear in new chief Monday

HYANNIS – They Hyannis Fire Department will hold a formal Assumption of Command Ceremony on July 24 for their new chief.

Peter Burke Jr., the current deputy chief in the Barnstable Fire District, will take the oath of office and be sworn in as the 11th chief of the Hyannis Fire Department.

He replaces Harold Brunelle who retired last year. Deputy Chief Dean Melanson has been serving as interim chief and was a finalists with Burke for the permanent job.

The ceremony will take place at 9 a.m. at Hyannis Fire headquarters at 95 High School Road Extension.
