orrjoshuaHYANNIS – Barnstable Police report that at approximately 9 p.m. Wednesday night, Patrol Officer Joseph Green encountered 26-year-old Joshua Orr outside the Cromwell Courts Housing Complex in Hyannis.   Orr is well known to the Barnstable Police Department for his involvement in crimes of violence and drug related offenses.  At the time of this encounter, Orr was currently on Superior Court Probation for a violent home invasion in 2009.

As Officer Green greeted Orr, police say he fled on foot and discarded an object against the building. A brief foot pursuit ensued and then Orr became combative with Officer Green, who sustained minor injuries during the struggle.  Officer Green successfully placed Orr under arrest.  The item Orr through as he ran away was determined to be a plastic bag containing approximately 20 grams of cocaine, with a street value of approximately $3000.

As a result of the incident, Orr was charged with the following crimes: trafficking in cocaine (18-36 grams), assault and battery on a police officer and resisting arrest.

Orr was arraigned in Barnstable District Court today and his bail was set at $1000.00.  Additionally, as a result of his active Superior Court Probation status, a warrant was issued from Barnstable Superior Court.
