FALMOUTH – An inmate from the county correctional facility in Bourne is among a four-man crew pre-harvesting oysters in West Falmouth’s Chapoquoit Harbor. The early October’s “catch” (this week oysters, next week quahogs) will be transplanted into open beds in town, according to supervising Deputy Jeff Wiseman. The shellfish have been maturing and cleansing in these closed beds and are now large and healthy enough to be released into waterways declared open – and thus harvest-ready for licensed shell-fishers. The fee in Falmouth for shell-fishing is $25 for residents, $6 for residents over 65, and $100 for non-residents.
