Inmates paint church trim at Bourne church

BOURNE – From the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office: Barnstable County Sheriff Jim Cummings last week dispatched an inmate work crew to paint the trim, railings and doors at St. John’s Catholic Church in Bourne. “The trim hasn’t been painted since 1983,” observed parishioner Joe Prioli, as he watched inmates mount ladders and a portable bucket extender to tackle the job.

“I’ve helped coordinate these inmate projects about once a year for the past five,” says Prioli, and that doesn’t include ongoing weekly inmate-crew stops at the town’s food pantry, where they help off-load provisions from a distribution center in Boston. “They’ve given me a great work product every time, and never once a problem.”

The BCSO inmate work crew saved the church approximately $5,500 in labor.
