TRURO – Inmates from the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Community Service Program help with much needed building repairs at the National Environmental Education Development (NEED) Academy in Truro. The academy, located on the National Seashore, provides hands-on education about the Cape Cod coastline to area 5th grade students.
“If they (the inmate crew) didn’t do this, we’d have to do it ourselves,” says Ellie Moody, the academy’s director, “and for that, there’s no money, no manpower, no time. It also enables us to preserve a part of the National Seashore experience, and that belongs to all of us.”
