UPDATED: Man charged with 5th offense OUI after collision with ambulance in Harwich


HARWICH
– On Sunday at approximately 9:50 PM, Officers of the Harwich Police Department were dispatched to the area of Route 28 and Cross Street for a motor vehicle crash involving a Harwich Fire Department Ambulance and a second vehicle. On scene investigation revealed that the ambulance was returning from a call and traveling west on Route 28. The second vehicle, a Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo was traveling east on Route 28 and collided with the ambulance as the vehicle attempted to turn left on to Cross Street.

The operator of the second vehicle was identified as Mark Mccluskey, 49 of Harwich. Police officers made observations and collected evidence during a roadside investigation which led to Mccluskey being placed under arrest.

Mccluskey was charged with the operating under the influence of liquor (5th offense), operating negligently to endanger, and failing to yield at an intersection. He was held overnight on $5,000.00 cash bail and transported to Orleans District Court on Monday morning for arraignment.

Neither the firefighters driving the ambulance nor Mr. Mccluskey were injured in the crash. The ambulance has been taken out of service until it can be repaired.
