Joint Base Cape Cod Children’s Christmas Party attracts 1,000 Sunday

BOURNE – It was a record turnout Sunday at the annual Joint Base Cape Cod Children’s Christmas Party.

The event, sponsored by the Cape Cod Military Support Foundation, attracted 1,000 people to the base.

Children of military families at Joint Base Cape Cod and Coast Guard bases on the Cape and Islands were able to pick out toys, visit with Santa Clause and enjoy free snacks and drinks.

A toy collection drive was held across Cape Cod at several locations during the past several weeks to help fill the need.

The goal of the organization is to ease stress on military families, particularly when a member is deployed overseas.

“These positive memories may be what helps get them through the next deployment or risky mission and come home safe,” said foundation President Don Cox.

“These children deal with the stress of one or more parents risking their lives, being gone for long duty hours, deployments etc. We want to bring some holiday cheer to these families.”

The event is made possible by the generous donations of new unwrapped toys, gifts, decorations, wrapping paper, and funding from individuals, grants, and businesses.
