BARNSTABLE – A former member of the Coast Guard was found guilty of first-degree murder Tuesday in Barnstable Superior Court in the shooting death of fellow Coast Guard petty officer, Lisa Trubnikova, in 2015.
Adrian Loya was immediately sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
He was also found guilty on several other charges, including assault and battery on a police officer. Loya also shot and seriously wounded former Bourne Police Officer Jared MacDonald during a rampage at a Bourne condo in February 2015.
Loya barged into the home, killed Trubnikova, and injured her wife, Petty Officer Anna Trubnikova.
MacDonald was shot while responding to the scene.
Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O’Keefe issued the following statement after the verdict.
“This is an appropriate verdict based on the evidence. It was apparent to anyone who watched this trial that this jury worked very hard.
I hope this provides some measure of relief to the Berlanga family whose daughter Lisa was murdered and to Anna Trubnikova who was severely wounded and to Officer MacDonald who was shot while responding.
I want to commend First Assistant District Attorney Brian Glenny and Assistant District Attorney Michael Donovan for the job they did along with all of the investigators and special units who worked on this complex case.”
