– It was a frightening scenario: a plane down on the runway at Barnstable Municipal Airport on fire with people trapped. Then reports start coming in of another aviation incident in Lewis Bay. Fortunately this time it was not real. The Barnstable Municipal Airport held a large scale drill Wednesday evening as required by the FAA every three years. Multiple local, state and federal agencies were involved in the drill which was made realistic by setting junk cars on fire to simulate a crashed plane. Volunteers were used as crash victims who had to be triaged and transported to medical facilities.
