Continuing storm coverage (Sunday) House collapse, CO scare in Sandwich

CAPE COD – Recovery efforts continue after the major nor’easter that blasted through. Damage is still being assessed but heavy beach erosion has closed Nauset Beach in Orleans. Cape Cod National Seashore posted this video of surf at Nauset Light Beach in Eastham where they say the newly constructed trail held up through the storm:

There are still road closures in some area as utility poles are still being replaced. Falmouth Police report the intersection of Brick Kiln Road and Sandwich road may remain closed for another 12 hours. Brick Kiln Road between Gifford Street and Service Road is also still closed. Officials remind motorists not to drive past blocked off area for your own safety.

As of 8 AM about 35,000 Eversource customers were still without power. CWN will update the storm in this article through the day.

10:30 a.m. update: Sandwich Firefighters were called to a Jonathan Lane residence Sunday morning for carbon monoxide alarms sounding. Crews reporting elevated CO readings in excess of 600 ppm in basement reportedly from utilizing a generator. Ambulances were requested to evaluate several occupants. A good reminder if you’re using a generator make sure it is outside and properly ventilated.

12:00 p.m. update: Sandwich Fire posted this photo of a house teetering on the edge. Power outages are up slightly to just over 36,000.

3:00 p.m. update: Bourne Police report Tower Lane from Bay Dr to Beechmoor CLOSED due to primary power line down on police cruiser and other lines down. No injuries. Bourne Police photo. A little over 31,000 without power-over 5,000 of those in Chatham.

6:00 p.m. update: Statement from BCREPC “Urgent: Please be advised that the Barnstable County Regional Shelters in Falmouth and Barnstable are closed. The shelter at Cape Cod Regional Technical High School in Harwich remains open. A reception center has been opened at the American Red Cross Chapter House at 286 South Street, Hyannis”

Falmouth Police report that for anyone requiring assistance overnight, the American Red Cross will be opening an overnight shelter/warming center at St. Francis Xavier Church, 347 South St. in Hyannis. People seeking shelter can either drive there directly, or the Regional Transit Authority (RTA) will have a bus staged at Falmouth Fire HQ, 399 Main St, Falmouth. Anyone requiring transportation should call the Barnstable County Multi-Agency Coordination Center (MACC) at 508-375-6990, or the Falmouth Police non-emergency number at 774-255-2527.
