Local firefighter to be honored during annual “Firefighter of the Year” ceremony

STOW – Governor Charlie Baker, Public Safety, Public Safety and  Security Secretary Daniel Bennett, Undersecretary Patrick McMurray and State Fire Marshal Peter Ostroskey will recognize heroic acts of bravery during the 28th annual “Firefighter of the Year” Awards next week.

A member of the Hyannis Fire Department will be among those getting awards.

The event will take place at Mechanics Hall in Worcester on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. recognizing recipients of the following awards: Medal of Honor, Medal of Valor, Individual Meritorious Conduct, Group Meritorious Conduct, and the Norman Knight Award for Excellence in Community Service.

Firefighters from Boston, Braintree, Brockton, Brookline, Cambridge, Canton, Dedham, Douglas, Gill, Hyannis, Holyoke, Lawrence, Lowell, Mansfield, Middleborough, Norwood, Pittsfield, Turners Fall, Uxbridge, Walpole, Watertown, Wellesley and Westwood, will be honored during the ceremony.

The Stephen D. Coan Fire Marshal Award will be presented to the members of the Western Massachusetts Safety and Fire Education Association which includes injury prevention professionals and firefighters from: Agawam, Belchertown, Chicopee, Hatfield, Holyoke, Northampton, Orange, Palmer, South Hadley, Southwick, Springfield, and Ware.

 WCVB-TV anchor Maria Stephanos will emcee the event.
