Local firefighters participate in the Fill The Boot campaign against Muscular Dystrophy

Many Cape Cod fire departments will be participating today (Saturday) in the annual Fill The Boot campaign to help “Jerry’s Kids” in the fight against Muscular Dystrophy. If not listed here, check with your local fire department for fundraisers in their town.

PROVINCETOWN – Members of the Provincetown Fire Department, along with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, will come together to kick off the firefighters’ annual Fill the Boot fundraising campaign to help save and improve the lives of people fighting muscle disease in the area. Muscular dystrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and other related life-threatening diseases take away people’s ability to walk, move, smile, talk and even breathe.

Several off-duty members of your volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad will fan out outside the Central Fire Station on Shankpainter Road with boots in hand for this year’s drive on Saturday September 2nd from 8 AM-8 PM on Shankpainter Road in front of the Fire Department.

Isaiah Edwards and his family will be there to participate for some time during the event. Isaiah has Muscular Dystrophy and lives in Truro, his father works for the Provincetown DPW. They do this drive for him and for the other people like him who are living with Muscular Dystrophy. All donations go directly to the MDA, more specifically, much of the money donated goes towards researching a cure and funding for new medicines to help people like Isaiah.

The link below will take you directly to their online fundraising page, so if you cannot make it down to the Fire Department or through our “toll” on Shankpainter Road, you can make a contribution online!

For more than 60 years, firefighters across America have stood on the front lines for MDA, striving to make a difference in the lives of those affected by muscle disease.

Every day, children are born with muscular dystrophy and adults are diagnosed with ALS and other life-threatening diseases that take away their most basic freedoms – like walking, talking, eating, hugging, and ultimately life itself

MDA is working to give these abilities back through early intervention, local engagement, and the search for better treatments and cures.

Help Team Red this weekend make a difference!
