CAPE COD – The annual Pan-Mass bicycle challenge is this weekend. Riders will travel from Sturbridge to the Mass Maritime Academy on Saturday. Sunday morning at the crack of down the riders will complete the journey to Provincetown. Several local PDs are advising of traffic delays:
PROVINCETOWN – The family finish concludes on Winslow Street (Motta Field) and the official finish at the Provincetown Inn Rotary.
Detail Traffic Control Officers will be deployed at various locations throughout the town!
Delays and some road closures will occur in most route areas from approximately 8:30 AM until about 2:30-3:30 PM.
Police suggest you avoid the following intersections:
· US Route #6 and Shankpainter Road
· Shankpainter Road and Jerome Smith Road
· Jerome Smith Road and Winslow Street
· Winslow Street at High Police Hill Road
· Commercial Street at West Vine Street
· Provincelands Road at Bradford Street Extension
· Expect congestion and reduced speeds on US Route #6 inbound during the event.
Please be patient and avoid the above areas in your vehicle by seeking alternate routes. Some road may be blocked completely; others may just have limited access for residents.
EASTHAM – On Sunday August 2nd, 2015 from 8:00 a.m. until approximately 11:30 a.m., Bike Riders will be traveling through Eastham as part of the annual Pan-Mass Challenge bike ride.
The riders enter Eastham via Bridge Rd. and travel down to Herring Brook Rd. where they cross over Massasoit Rd. and then onto Oak Rd. where they enter Rt. 6. One lane will be closed northbound at that intersection and will remain closed down to Nauset Rd. Riders will enter the Cape Cod Rail Trail at Nauset and Railroad Ave. and then continue to Provincetown where the event concludes.
Police Officers will be assigned along the route but motorists are asked to be conscious of the riders and to expect delays from Brackett Rd. Northbound.
DENNIS – Traffic Advisory for Sunday, August 2, 2015-The Pan MA Challenge riders will be riding through Dennis between 6-9 am on Setucket Road.
YARMOUTH – Nearly 6,000 bicyclists will be riding through Yarmouth Port along Route 6A and Setucket Road between 6 and 8 AM this Sunday morning August 2, 2015, when the riders pedal their way across Cape Cod during the 36th annual Pan-Massachusetts Challenge.
This is a massive amount of extra traffic on Route 6A and all motorists are strongly advised to travel extra carefully through this area as they pass through Yarmouth Port and expect slower than average travel time.
The cyclists are expected to travel through 11 Cape towns on Sunday, the second day of the 190 mile weekend-long event which starts in Sturbridge, Massachusetts.
The ride starts as early as 4 a.m. on Sunday in Bourne, with the last participants arriving in Provincetown around 2:30 p.m.
BARNSTABLE – This Sunday, August 2nd, the Pan-Mass Challenge will be moving across Cape Cod and through the Town of Barnstable.
The route will mainly consist of the Service Road between exits 4 and 5, Rte 149 from the Service Road toward Rte 6A and Rte 6A toward Yarmouth.
Be aware that numerous cyclists will be on the roadways most of the morning. There will also be police officers posted along the route at major intersections controlling traffic. Expect delays.
