Local Police offer prayers, support as Weymouth officer shot and killed in the line of duty

WEYMOUTH, MA
– A Weymouth, MA police officer was killed in a horrific and senseless incident Sunday morning. Following a car crash, the suspect fled. Officer Michael Chesna caught up with the suspect who is alleged to have thrown a large rock striking the officer. The suspect is then accused of taking Chesna’s gun and shooting him several times. As other police gave chase, the suspect fired more shots from the gun. One of the shots entered a nearby home killing an innocent bystander. The suspect is in custody.

Here on Cape Cod, many departments took to social media to offer prayers and support for Weymouth Police and for Chesna’s wife and two children. Yarmouth Police, who will forever miss K9 Sgt. Sean Gannon who was shot and killed in April, expressed frustration at the state legislature where a bill to provide training and safety equipment for police is stalled in committee.

Arrangements for Officer Chesna are imcomplete.
