VIDEO: Major crash on Route 6 in Wellfleet

WELLFLEET
– Wellfleet Police report that on Thursday at approximately 1118 hours, officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident with a subject trapped in the vehicle on Route Six near the entrance to the Cape Cod National Seashore. Upon arrival, officers observed a Jeep Grand Cherokee with extensive front end damage and a male operator trapped inside the vehicle. Officers also observed a Cape Cod Ready Mix truck in the woods off Route Six with the male operator injured. The Wellfleet and Eastham Fire departments arrived on location and freed both operators from the vehicles and transported them to Cape Cod Hospital with unknown injuries. The Wellfleet Fire department called for Med Flight initially but that request was cancelled.

As the result of an initial investigation and witness statements, the Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling northbound on Route Six when it crossed over the double-yellow line striking the Cape Cod Ready Mix truck that was traveling southbound. The accident continues to be under investigation by the Wellfleet Police Department and members of the Cape Cod Regional Accident Reconstruction team. The Barnstable County Sheriff’s office also assisted at the scene.
