Man accused of giving false name arrested on six warrants

Michael S. James

YARMOUTH – Yarmouth Police report that on Saturday at approximately 2:27 AM, midnight shift Patrol Officer Ryan Murphy observed a vehicle traveling without the rear license plate illuminated and conducted a motor vehicle stop of the white Hyundai Accent bearing Massachusetts plates on Route 28 near Long Pond Drive.

The female operator–identified as Beth Russell–advised Patrol Officer Murphy that she did not have a license with her. When she opened the glove compartment, Officer Murphy observed several boxes of Suboxone tablets in the glove box.

Fellow Yarmouth Police Department Patrol Officers Matt Mangano and Christopher Kent arrived on scene as back-up support.

The front seat male passenger did not have an ID and provided a name, date of birth, and social security number. A check of this found the information to be false.

A check of inside the vehicle revealed a crack pipe, scales, as well as the Suboxone boxes prescribed to the owner of the vehicle, who was not inside the vehicle.

The Yarmouth Police Emergency 911 Police Dispatch Center conducted an investigation that determined the true name of the passenger as Michael S. James, 45, of Hyannis who had six arrest warrants from several different courts.

Mr. James was placed under arrest, transported to the Yarmouth Police Department, and booked by Patrol Sergeant George Tsoukalas. During the booking process, Police Officers observed a clear plastic baggie sticking out of the bottom of his pant leg that was knotted multiple times and contained a light brown powdery substance believed to be heroin.

The packet of heroin was seized and sent to the Massachusetts Drug Lab for analysis.

A Medicare card belonging to someone else was also seized out of a wallet found in Mr. James’ pocket.

Additional charges may follow.

James—who has 79 prior charges in Massachusetts—was held at Yarmouth Police Department Headquarters on no bail and transported to the Barnstable District Court this morning for processing.
