Man accused of shooting another with pellet gun in Eastham

EASTHAM
– Eastham Police report that On Tuesday at approximately 9:10 PM, they received a report of an assault that had just occurred at the Town Crier Motel in Eastham. The responding officers located a victim in the parking lot of the motel with blood on his face and hands. The victim indicated that he had been struck by pellets fired from a pellet gun at close range, and also had been struck by the butt end of the pellet gun during the altercation. The Eastham Fire and Rescue Department transported the victim to Cape Cod Hospital for treatment of what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries. Eastham Police Officers were able to identify Stanley Cannon, 35, of Eastham, as the suspect in the incident. Mr. Cannon had returned to his apartment after the altercation and was refusing to answer the door for on-scene Eastham Police Officers. The Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council (CCRLEC) SWAT Team was requested to assist with taking Mr. Cannon into custody due to his extensive criminal record and the possibility that more weapons may have been present within his apartment. At approximately midnight, a negotiator from the CCRLEC SWAT Team was able to convince Cannon to exit his residence peacefully. At that time, Cannon was placed under arrest for two counts of Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon.

A search warrant for Cannon’s apartment was obtained by the Eastham Police Department in an effort to locate the pellet gun used during the incident. Eastham Police subsequently located the pellet gun and seized it as evidence.

The Orleans Police Department and the Wellfleet Police Department assisted during this incident by helping secure a perimeter around the scene and also with the booking process once Cannon was in custody.

Cannon was booked at the Eastham Police Department and held overnight on $3000 bail. Cannon is due to be arraigned at the Orleans District court on Wednesday.
