Man accused of threatening to kill Barnstable officers

David Luna

HYANNIS – On Tuesday July 17th at approximately 12:46 PM, an officer assigned to the Barnstable Police Traffic Division conducted a traffic stop of 48-year-old David Luna of Barnstable. Luna failed to yield to an ambulance which was responding to an emergency. During the stop, Luna exited his vehicle against the officer’s direction, and began a verbal tirade of expletives towards the officer. After the officer called for back-up, Luna sat in his vehicle and upon receiving a citation, continued to verbally berate the police. Later that day, Barnstable Police were made aware of a social media posting, allegedly made by Luna, in which he complained about the motor vehicle stop and personally called out the officer saying he would like to see him “get it next”, referring to the two recent murders of Sgt. Sean Gannon of the Yarmouth Police Dept. and Sgt. Michael Chesna of the Weymouth Police Dept .

On July 18, 2018 due to Luna’s actions subsequent to receiving a citation, an arrest warrant was sought and issued by Barnstable District Court for Intimidation of a Witness, Disorderly Conduct, and Threat to Commit A Crime.

On July 19, 2018 at approximately 2:17 PM, Barnstable Police arrested Luna and transported him to Barnstable District Court where he verbally accosted the Barnstable Police Prosecutor during arraignment. No Bail was ordered by the court pending a dangerousness hearing on Monday July 23, 2018 where additional charges were added stemming from Luna’s actions during arraignment. He was ordered held without bail until his next court date in August
