Updated: Man reportedly suffers accidental gun shot wound to his leg in Harwich


HARWICH – A man reportedly suffered a gun shot wound to the leg in an accidental shooting in Harwich around 7 PM. The incident happened in the 400 block of Queen Anne Road. The victim was taken to Cape Cod Hospital and arrangements were being made for a MedFlight helicopter to respond for transport to a trauma center. The incident is under investigation by Harwich Police.

Harwich Police tell Cape Wide News that on Friday, February 28 at approximately 7:00 PM, they along with Harwich Fire were dispatched to a residence on Queen Anne Road for the report of subject who had shot himself in the leg. Responding Harwich Police Officers found a male subject who was suffering from a single gunshot wound to his left leg. Officers applied a tourniquet to the leg and Harwich Fire Department personnel arrived and took over treatment of the injury. The subject was transported to Cape Cod Hospital in stable condition.

The incident is under investigation by the Harwich Police Department with assistance from the Barnstable County Sheriffs Bureau of Criminal Identification. At this time we do not believe that the victim was shot by anyone else and likely injured himself through the improper handling of the weapon.
