Also on Monday at about 12:00 p.m., Officers Calib Larue and Christopher Smith went to a residence in West Wareham to place a male in custody on a court warrant. In the home the officers advised the male that he was under arrest, however he closed an interior door with both hands slamming it shut on Officer Larue’s left arm and left leg while simultaneously attempting to push him back. Officer Larue was able to gain his balance and used his body weight to push open the door, however the male now punched him in the chest, knocking his police radio off. The struggle continued and Officer Smith was able to enter the room and assist Officer Larue in bringing the violent male to the ground for handcuffing. Once on the ground the male kicked Officer Smith before he was secured in handcuffs, however he continued to resist. While being escorted to the cruiser he began screaming expletives at the officers, who were having trouble controlling the male while crossing the front yard in the snow. As a result of his violent outburst the officers were forced to secure his legs with restraints to prevent anymore assaults while transporting him to the station.

Robert B. Mahan, 28, of West Wareham, was charged with the following as a result of the fracas.

• Assault and battery on a police officer (2 counts).
• Assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
• Disorderly conduct.
• Disturbing the peace.
• Resisting arrest.

Officer Larue received cuts and bruises and had some of his police gear damaged during the incident. Mr. Mahan was processed at police headquarters before being transported to Wareham District Court.
