Man charged with attempted murder after Bourne baseball bat attack

dudasmarkBOURNE – Bourne Police report that at approximately 2:34 a.m., officers responded to a residence on Quail Hill Road in Pocasset after receiving a 911 call reporting a male had been struck in the head with a baseball bat. While responding to the scene, officers were informed by dispatch that the alleged assailant, 28-year-old Mark Dudas of Dorchester, MA, was fleeing the scene in a small gray sedan owned by the victim. Dudas was identified as a friend of the victim.

Officers arrived on scene and observed the vehicle traveling south on Quail Hill Road. Officers exited their cruisers and ordered Dudas to stop the vehicle. He complied with stopping the vehicle, but he failed to put it in park. Dudas, who police say was later determined to be under the influence of alcohol, was ordered to place the vehicle in park and exit the vehicle. He refused to follow officer’s commands. While attempting to apprehend Dudas, the vehicle he was driving made contact with a parked Bourne Police Cruiser causing minor damage to both vehicles.

Dudas (right) was subsequently arrested and charged with attempted murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, operating under the influence of liquor, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. The 39-year-old male victim, was treated on scene by officers and paramedics. He was later transported to an area hospital with serious injuries but was later reported to be in stable condition. Upon further investigation, police say it was determined Dudas struck the victim with the bat after an argument over disparaging remarks made by the victim regarding Dudas and his family.
