Man charged with OUI after crashing through Yarmouth security gate

deveauYARMOUTH – The Yarmouth Police Department reports that on Wednesday at 8:10 p.m. Yarmouth police officers responded to the gate house at Great Island located at the end of South Sea Avenue for a report that someone driving a truck had just crashed through the gate and left the scene.

The officers met with the gate guard, who provided a description of the truck and the Connecticut license plate information. A query of the department’s computerized internal records located a local address for the registered owner.

Officers responded to an address on Baxter Avenue in West Yarmouth and found the damaged Ford F-150 truck in the driveway with the driver seated inside.

The driver, Roger W. Deveau, 55, (photo at right) was interviewed, given a series of standardized field sobriety tests and determined to be heavily intoxicated. He was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to Yarmouth Police Department headquarters for booking.

He is scheduled for arraignment Thursday in the Barnstable District Court on a variety of criminal charges including OUI liquor second offense; operating a motor vehicle negligently so as to endanger; leaving the scene of property damage; operating a motor vehicle with revoked license; and speeding.
