Man charged with stealing jewelry case from K-Mart

andersonjamesHYANNIS – Barnstable Police report that on Thursday at approximately 11 p.m., 65-year-old James Anderson of Hyannis (right), was arrested by Patrol Officer Joseph Green for Larceny Over $250 and Possession of Burglarious Tools following an investigation by the Barnstable Police Department Patrol Division.

Earlier in the night Barnstable Police Patrol Officers responded to K-Mart in Hyannis for a report of a male party whom had cut security wires from one of the jewelry display cases. The male party then exited the store with the display case in a shopping cart. K-Mart estimated that there was approximately $10,000 dollars’ worth of gold jewelry in the case when it was stolen. Officers were able to obtain a description of the suspect as well as the vehicle he fled the parking lot in from the store surveillance video.

Officer Green later observed a motor vehicle matching the description of the vehicle he had observed in the video traveling on Main Street Hyannis. A traffic stop was conducted and the operator was identified as James Anderson of Hyannis. Officer Green immediately identified Anderson as the male party he had observed on the K-Mart surveillance video. Anderson was still wearing the same distinct clothing, to include a “SELFIE” winter cap, that he had worn into K-Mart. During the traffic stop Officer Green secured a pair of wire cutters as well as several pieces of jewelry that still had K-Mart price tags on them.

James Anderson was placed under arrest for Larceny Over $250 and Possession of Burglarious tools. Anderson has 78 adult arraignments in Massachusetts, consisting primarily of Breaking & Entering, Larcenies, Shoplifting, and narcotics charges. Anderson was booked at the Barnstable Police Department, where he was held on $540 cash bail. Anderson was scheduled to appear in Barnstable District Court on Friday for arraignment.
