New details: Man charged with OUI after early morning incident that left several vehicles engulfed in flames in Hyannis

HYANNIS – Barnstable Police are investigating an early morning incident that left several vehicles on fire. According to reports police were looking for a pickup truck that was riding on its rims when they discovered the vehicles on fire at the Cape Crossroads complex at 800 Bearse’s Way. Hyannis firefighters doused the flames and no injuries were reported. A man was detained by police at the scene.

Update: Barnstable Police tell Cape Wide News that officer Owen Murray was looking for a vehicle reportedly driving on its rims when he was dispatched to a vehicle fire at the Cape Crossroads complex on Bearse’s Way. Ofc. Lima attempted to use a fire extinguisher but could not control the fire. In all, a Ford pickup, Toyota Matrix and a Ford Transit van were damaged in the fire. Hyannis Fire was called to put the fire out.

Ofc. Murray reports at this time an individual emerged from and apartment. He identified himself as the driver of the pickup truck which was later confirmed to be the vehicle suspected of driving on its rims. While speaking with the man later identified as Julio Cesar Ramos-Rivera, Ofc Murray noted a n odor of alcohol, bloodshot and glassy eyes, slurred speech and he was unsteady on his feet.

Ramos-River was asked to perform field sobriety tests and was subsequently placed under arrest on charges of operating under the influence of liquor, and operating negligently to endanger.
