Man facing heroin, suboxone charges in Vineyard

labbejasonEDGARTOWN – On Friday at approximately 2:20 p.m., detectives assigned to the Martha’s Vineyard Drug Task Force were engaging in proactive drug enforcement in the Town of Edgartown. At this time detectives were performing surveillance in the parking lot of a business on Meshacket Road.

The detectives observed what they believed what was about to be a drug transaction between a male standing in the parking lot and the male operator of a vehicle that stopped to pick the male up. The detectives followed the vehicle towards the exit of the lot and it appeared as though the vehicle was going to stop to let the passenger out.

The detectives attempted to initiate a motor vehicle stop with the vehicle but it began to drive towards the exit of the parking lot. The emergency lights and siren were activated on the cruiser, however the vehicle proceeded to drive out of the parking lot, turn left on to Meshacket Road, continued on Meshacket Road and made a left turn back into the entrance of the parking lot where it came to a stop.

Detectives approached the vehicle and detained the operator and the passenger. The operator was identified as Jason Labbe, 36 of Middleboro, MA, formerly of Martha’s Vineyard. Mr. Labbe and the passenger are known to police.

A search of the vehicle revealed a corner of a plastic bag that contained a brown powder substance which was consistent with heroin, an orange pill that was identified as Suboxone and two hypodermic needles. In addition several ripped plastic bag corners were located in the vehicle which is consistent with drug packaging.

The investigation also revealed that Mr. Labbe had an active arrest warrant out of Wareham District Court associated with a domestic related offense.

As a result of this investigation, Jason Labbe was placed under arrest for the following:
1) Failure to Stop for Police
2) Possession of a Class A Substance (Heroin)
3) Possession of a Class B Substance (Suboxone)
4) Active arrest warrant

Mr. Labbe is being held at the Dukes County Jail without bail due to the warrant. The passenger was released from the scene.

CWN archives show Labbe was arrested for bank robbery in Falmouth in August 2008. Falmouth Police reported he robbed the Bank of America of $11,000. He was captured just hours later at a restaurant in Middleboro where his girlfriend worked. He had reportedly just purchased a lottery ticket that won $50.
