Updated: Man rescued from Cape Cod Canal

BOURNE – At approximately 3:23 a.m., Officers from the Bourne Police Department responded to the Canal Service Road for a report of a man who possibly fell in the Cape Cod Canal. Officers arrived at the scene and located a 23-year-old male who appeared as if he had just come out of the water. Officers discovered that the male was staying at the Bourne Scenic Park and thought he could swim in the canal; however he was quickly overcome by the current and carried away. It was determined he traveled less than 1/4 mile in the canal, before he was able to make it to the side and pull himself out of the water. The male was transported to Tobey Hospital in Wareham by Bourne Fire Rescue for evaluation. The incident was forwarded to the U.S Army Corp of Engineers.
