Mashpee man arrested during drug search warrant

MASHPEE – A search warrant executed early Friday morning led to the arrest of a Mashpee man and the seizure of cocaine and cash.

The search occurred at about 4 am on February 23rd at 163 and 165 Ninigret Avenue in Mashpee.

The search warrant stemmed from a joint drug investigation by Falmouth Police, Mashpee Police, Cape Cod Drug Task Force, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The investigation included several controlled purchases of drugs, which exposed a drug distribution operation on Ninigret Avenue in Mashpee.

Investigators searched the two properties, located, and seized 14 grams of cocaine valued at about $1,400, along with $1,745 in cash. Also seized was material used to package illegal drugs, including digital scales and sandwich bags.

Brian L. Costa, 23, of Mashpee was arrested and charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine and Destruction of Evidence. Mr. Costa was also arrested for three outstanding arrest warrants, which included offenses for Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine (three counts) and Maliciously Injuring Real or Personal Property.

The Upper Cape Special Response Team (SRT) and the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office Canine Unit assisted with the execution of the search warrant.

Costa is scheduled to be arraigned Friday morning at Falmouth District Court.
