Mashpee man involved in deadly crash on I-495 in Norton

NORTON – State Police report that Saturday evening at approximately 6:02 p.m., troopers from the State Police Barracks in Foxboro responded to reports of a head-on collision on Interstate 495 southbound prior to exit 10 in Norton. Upon arrival, troopers discovered that a 2015 Toyota Tacoma had struck a 2010 Toyota Yaris head-on.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the Toyota Tacoma, for reasons still under investigation, was traveling on Interstate 495 northbound when it left the roadway, crossed the median and struck the Toyota Yaris head-on in the center travel lane of Interstate 495 southbound.

The driver of the Yaris was determined to be deceased as a result of injuries sustained from the crash. A passenger in the Yaris was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Tacoma, a 41-year-old man from Mashpee was also injured and transported to Rhode Island Hospital. His injuries are not considered life threatening.

The right and center travel lanes of Interstate 495 Southbound in Norton were closed for accident reconstruction. The remaining facts and circumstances of the crash are currently under investigation by troopers from the Foxboro Barracks. Troop H Headquarters, State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section (CARS), State Police Crime Scene Services Section (CSSS), State Police Detective Unit assigned to Bristol County District Attorney, Norton Fire & EMS, State Medical Examiner’s Office and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (Mass DOT) all assisted on scene.
