Mashpee Wampanoag Police investigate suspicious dumping in Mashpee River

MASHPEEFrom Mashpee Wampanoag Police: Tribal PD is currently working an investigation into a non-tribal member dumping 5 gallon jugs of a clear liquid into the Mashpee River via the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribal Museum Parking Lot, located ok the Mashpee Wampanoag Reservation. This happened Tuesday evening at approx 7:35 PM. We are working with State and Local agencies on this case.

We ask that Tribal Members and others to please do not interfere with the team that will be at the Herring Run. They are currently in reservation lands now and are expect to be for several hours. We are making sure no chemicals, toxins, or any other illegal substances were dumped.

If you recall we had Blue Herron dying because of chemicals two years in a row in previous years. Our Tribal Members safety, Environment and wildlife safety is of the upmost importance to us.

Once we know the water is clean of any toxins, we will advise and update.
