UPDATED: MedFlight called after incident at House of Corrections

BOURNE – The Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office has updated Cape Wide News on a serious incident at the Barnstable House of Corrections prompted a call for a MedFlight helicopter. The helo landed at the Pocasset Little League field about 5:30 PM and flew the victim to a trauma center.

According to Sheriff Jeff Perry, an inmate at the Barnstable County House of Correction was injured on Wednesday after reportedly jumping from a second-tier area at the facility in Bourne. Special Sheriff Jeff Perry said the incident happened sometime after 4 PM. The unidentified inmate was initially taken to Falmouth Hospital for treatment and then MedFlighted to Rhode Island Hospital trauma center in Providence. Perry said their investigative unit was looking into the incident. He also said all non cell areas are equipped with surveillance cameras which may have captured the incident. No other inmates were involved in the situation. He described the inmate as conscious and alert when initially taken to the hospital.
