Updated: Medflight called by Wellfleet paramedics for severe hand injury

WELLFLEET – Wellfleet Fire officials called for a MedFlight helicopter after a victim arrived at the fire station shortly before 1:30 PM Friday with a severe hand injury and other trauma. Initial reports were that a fireworks accident was to blame. Because of distance of the MedFlight , the victim was transported to Barnstable Municipal Airport to meet the helicopter.

Cape Wide News learned the incident originated in Truro and the victim was then driven to the Wellfleet fire station. CWN reached out to Truro Fire Chief Timothy Collins who released the following statement: “I cannot confirm that there was a fireworks issue what I can tell you is that an individual who was working on a job site in Truro and sustained an injury, He was transported by coworkers to the Wellfleet Fire for treatment. He was then transported to by Wellfleet Fire to the hospital but due to the extent of his injuries it was determined that he needed further evaluation at a trauma center he was taken by helicopter to a Rhode Island area hospital for further treatment of his injuries. The cause is currently under investigation with both the Truro and Wellfleet police departments.”
