MedFlight for cyclist hit by car in Falmouth

FALMOUTH – The Falmouth Police Department reports that on Tuesday at approximately 1:55 p.m. the Falmouth Police Department and the Falmouth Fire Rescue Department received calls reporting a vehicle-vs-cyclist crash in the area of 620 Palmer Avenue.

The vehicle involved, a 2013 Toyota Corolla, was being operated by a 71-year-old female resident of Falmouth. The cyclist was a 19-year-old male from Falmouth. Both the vehicle and the cyclist were traveling south in the area of Cape Cod Hand Therapy on Palmer Avenue.

Several witnesses on scene indicated the cyclist left the sidewalk and entered the travel lane of Palmer Avenue. without warning. The Toyota Corolla crashed into the cyclist, propelling him approximately 40 feet. The operator of the vehicle was uninjured. The cyclist, however, sustained head trauma and was transported by MedFlight to a Boston area medical facility for injuries that were not life threatening

The involved section of Palmer Avenue was completely closed to non-emergency vehicles for approximately 40 minutes.

The crash remains under investigation by the Falmouth Police.
