PROVINCETOWN – From Mass Evironmental Police: “Officer’s from the Marine Patrol Unit were enroute to Stellwagon Bank today in order to conduct fixed gear inspections. All lobster and gillnet gear are required to have a weak link attached to their buoy line to help minimize the risk of large whale and/or marine mammal entanglements.

While in transit, a leatherback turtle was observed entangled in a lobster buoy line within Cape Cod Bay. The Patrol Unit notified the Coastal Studies Disentanglement Team and were able to work together to free the leatherback turtle from the buoy line and the turtle was able to swim away freely.”
