DENNIS – Dennis Police report that at approximately 10:30 AM Thursday morning, a citizen brought a suspicious canister to the police station on Bob Crowell Road. The citizen reported that he had found the canister in the area of Swan Pond in Dennisport.
Personnel from the Dennis Police and Dennis Fire cordoned off the area in front of the Police Department and contacted the Massachusetts State Police. The State Police dispatched a Trooper from their Bomb Disposal Unit to investigate.
The State Police Bomb Technician arrived and confirmed that the found canister was a military style smoke grenade. The Trooper took custody of the canister for future disposal. The scene was cleared at 12:07 PM.
Officials remind people for their own safety to leave suspicious items in place where they discoverer them and call 911 to have first responders come to them.
