Monday activity in Wareham

WAREHAM – On Monday July 2, Wareham Police Officers made multiple arrests for various incidents.

At about 4:45 PM, two women were arrested in the area of 166 Main Street as the result of a disturbance. Officers Ryan Turner and Calib Larue arrested Madison Snow, 31, of Wareham and Penny Draper, 54, of East Wareham. The women were charged with disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace.

Later, at about 8:20 PM Officer Christopher Smith was dispatched to the area of Midas Muffler on the report of a male armed with a knife threatening another male. Upon arrival, Officer Smith was directed to an area near the pond where the suspect was located. Officer Smith encountered Edward McKenzie, 30, of East Wareham and a tense standoff began as he was reported to be armed with a knife however refused to show his hands. Officers Larue and Ryan Turner arrived at the scene to assist. Mr. McKenzie said he was going to force the officers to shoot him. Officers attempted to talk with him, however he refused to cooperate. Finally, a Taser was deployed and Mr. McKenzie was subdued and taken to Tobey Hospital for evaluation. A knife was located in a bag near Mr. McKenzie. He is being summoned to Wareham District Court for the charge of assault with a deadly weapon. The original person who had been threatened was not injured.

At about 8:30 PM Officer Larue was sent from the scene on Cranberry Highway for the report of a disturbance in the area of 412 Main Street. In addition, information was received that there was a vehicle that struck a building in the same general area. Due to the fact that all other Wareham cruisers were tied up, Marion police were summoned for assistance. At the scene Officer Larue and Marion Officer Larry Savary determined that the suspect vehicle fled the scene, and the victim reported the driver of the car had deliberately struck her, before hitting the building. Officers investigated and determined the driver of the car was Doreen Fernandes, 52, of Wareham. While officers remained on scene investigating, Ms. Fernandes arrived at Wareham Police headquarters where she was placed under arrest. She is being charged with, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, leaving the scene of property damage accident, and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident. The victim was transported to Tobey Hospital by Wareham EMS for treatment.

It should be noted that these calls represent only 3 of the 139 calls for service Wareham Police dealt with on Monday.
