Mother and child rescued from rip current in Truro

TRURO – A mother and child are safe after a dramatic rescue on Truro’s Oceanside late Tuesday morning. It started around 10:45 AM at Coast Guard Beach. The child reportedly got caught first and the mother went in after the child. She managed to call 911 from the board they were on. Lifeguards from the adjacent Head of the Meadow Beach responded to the scene about 100 yards out on their rescue board and were able to bring both back to shore. They were evaluated but declined medical treatment.

Officials say of you get caught in a rip, don’t panic and don’t try to swim against it. Instead, swim parallel to the shore until you get out of the current, then make your way into shore.
